Y2K
Short for the year 2000. Used in the computing industry at the time as a term to indicate the readiness of computer programs for the date change from 19XX to 20XX. Historically many old systems had only shown the date with the last two figures making it difficult to properly compute the time in years between, say, 89 and 02.
Yellow Pages
Telephone directories of businesses classified by sector. Originally the business section of telephone directories using yellow paper to distinguish from the alphabetical section they became a separate directories and the term became generic. The term continues despite a large element of directories moving on-line.
